Former Premier League goalkeeper Brad Friedel is being eyed by Nottingham Forest’s prospective new owners, the Sun reports.

Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi claimed on Friday that a takeover of the Championship club, led by former San Diego Padres owner John Hay Moores, is edging closer to completion.

And, according to the Sun, Moores will turn to fellow American Friedel as his director of football at the City Ground.

The report claims that Friedel, who possesses a vast knowledge of the English game, having represented top sides Liverpool, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur during an 18-year spell on this side of the Atlantic, will be tasked with running the club and could lead Forest’s search for a new manager.

Despite a bright start to life on Trentside, current incumbent Philippe Montanier has won just one of his last eight matches in charge of the Reds, who are 15th in the Championship.

The report adds that 45-year-old Friedel, who is currently coaching the United States’ under-19 side, has already visited Forest to check on the club’s facilities.
