Mark Robins has been lined up to replace Eddie Howe at Bournemouth after leading Coventry City to the League One title, according to TEAMtalk.
The departure of Eddie ‘Mr Bournemouth’ Howe may have created a major void at the heart of a club built in his image, but that does not mean the Cherries are destined to slip back into obscurity after their five-year spell in the Premier League came to an end.
In Robins, the South Coast club are targeting a coach with an excellent track record in the Football League; one who was celebrating promotion as recently as June.
The former Barnsley and Huddersfield boss led a perennially crisis-hit Coventry side back to the Championship after eight years away, winning the third-tier table on a points-per-game basis.
And TEAMtalk reports that Robins could soon be offered the chance to replace Howe at Bournemouth, although it remains to be seen whether he can build on the 42-year-old’s great work or whether this would be something of a David Moyes at Manchester United situation.
Howe is, after all, perhaps the closest thing English football has to another Sir Alex Ferguson.
Robins’ Coventry side were not the most exciting or prolific team in League One last season, though their success was built on a superb defensive record.
Maybe that is why Bournemouth, a team who conceded over 60 goals in each of their five Premier League campaigns, are interested.
Robins could perhaps provide the organisation and the defensive discipline that was badly lacking throughout Howe’s top-flight reign.
