According to The Mirror, Bournemouth want £15million for midfielder Harry Arter after rejecting a first bid from Premier League rivals West Ham United.

Arter, 28, came up through the ranks with Charlton Athletic before dropping into non-league football with Woking in 2009, but lasted just a year there before being snapped up by Bournemouth.

Since joining The Cherries, Arter has become a key player at the Vitality Stadium, racking up almost 250 appearances for the club having been a regular throughout the club’s rise from League One to the Premier League.

Now a Republic of Ireland international with six caps to his name, Arter has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround since his Charlton exit – and Bournemouth are now fighting to keep him at the club.

The Mirror report that West Ham United have made one move to sign Arter, but have been told to pay £15million for his signature, leaving the two clubs far apart in their valuations.

The Hammers are desperate to land a new midfielder this month to boost David Moyes’ squad, and he had seemingly identified Arter as a top target to challenge with Mark Noble, Cheikhou Kouyate and Pedro Obiang.

However, Bournemouth are standing firm, and few West Ham would want want to see the club splash £15million on Arter, despite his strong displays for Bournemouth.

With Crystal Palace also thought to be keen, Arter may still end up leaving Bournemouth this month, and it remains to be seen whether West Ham return with a new bid.
