Bournemouth are reportedly resigning themselves to the fact that Celtic will not sell Kieran Tierney this summer.
Tierney seems to have been linked with a move to the Premier League ever since he burst onto the scene at Parkhead. The 21-year-old is easily the best left-back in the Scottish Premiership and has made 130 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions.
Bournemouth have been eyeing a move for the Scotland international, but The Sun on Sunday (17/06; page 58) reports that the Cherries are starting to give up hope of signing Tierney with Celtic making it clear that they are not prepared to sell their academy graduate.
It would arguably be a fantastic statement from the Bhoys if they managed to hold onto Tierney for another window. Bournemouth may not have the profile of some Premier League sides, but they have shown in the last few years that they are not afraid to spend big money on players, and they have put together an exciting squad that boasts a lot of potential.
Some players would be forgiven for finding the chance to move from Celtic to the Premier League reluctantly tempting. Brendan Rodgers’ men have achieved everything domestically and they face a huge task trying to get back to the knockout stages of the Champions League despite two encouraging showings in the group-stages.
But keeping Tierney may not only help any linked-away teammates come to the conclusion that they also wish to stay, but it may also give Rodgers a better chance of attracting Celtic’s targets to the club as they will see that their best players are planning to stick around for a while longer.
