Mkhitaryan joined United from Dortmund in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £26 million.
The Armenia international attacking midfielder arrived at Old Trafford with a strong reputation, but the 27-year-old has failed to make an impact so far this season.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk star, who can also operate as a winger, has been able to make just four appearances in the Premier League for United so far this campaign, creating three chances in the process.
According to The Sunday People, Dortmund are willing to re-sign Mkhitaryan on a loan deal in January.
