The World Cup winner was apparently being lined up for a sensational switch to Wales.

Swansea City have been denied the transfer-deadline-day signing of Borrusia Dortmund forward Andre Schurrle in unfortunate circumstances, according to Sky Sports.
Sky Sports understands that the German World Cup winner was poised to join the Swans on a two-year loan deal but Dortmund have now called off that potential arrangement.

The report adds that Ukrainian winger Andriy Yarmolenko suffered an injury in training yesterday and Dortmund now require Schurrle to stay to provide cover in the attacking positions.
The 27-year-old had previously been deemed surplus to requirements, making only two Bundesliga starts this season, and has also been linked with West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United by Sky Sports.

Schurrle had a decent scoring record of 11 goals in 20 Premier League starts in his 18 months at Chelsea and would have been a huge coup for any of those relegation-threatened side.
The collapse of the deal will be a blow to Swansea, but Carlos Carvalhal’s side still appear to be on the up after consecutive wins over Liverpool and Arsenal lifted them out of the bottom three.
