Burnley not ready to give up hope of signing Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga ahead of Middlesbrough.

Burnley have not given up hope of signing Nottingham Forest’s Britt Assombalonga just yet and are ready to make an improved offer for the striker, reports the Nottingham Post.

This will come as a blow to Middlesbrough, who the Northern Echo reported were about to enter talks with the Reds and Assombalonga’s representatives after agreeing a £14m fee for the 24-year-old.

However, in a last ditch attempt to sign the former Peterborough United man themselves and after having an £8m bid rejected earlier this summer, the Clarets are now willing to increase their offer.

Manager Sean Dyche gave Assombalonga his debut in professional football back when they were both at Watford in 2011/12 and the Hornets are also thought to be interested in bringing the attacker back to Vicarage Road.

The Forest star left Hertfordshire at the end of that season and was prolific in front of goal while on loan with Southend United, before leaving permanently for Peterborough in 2013 and after netting 33 goals in 58 games that season, moving to the City Ground a year later.

Injuries have blighted Assombalonga’s time with the Reds somewhat, but that hasn’t stopped him scoring 30 times in 69 matches for the Championship club.
