Middlesbrough want £25m for Ben Gibson to try and ward off interest from the likes of Everton and Tottenham.

In a bid to ward off interest from six Premier League sides, Middlesbrough have put a £25m price-tag on defender Ben Gibson.

This is according to the Daily Star, who say that new manager Garry Monk is keen to keep hold of Gibson and therefore the club will only accept offers of £25m and above for his signature.

The six sides reported to be keeping tabs on the centre-back are; Chelsea, Everton, Leicester City, Southampton, Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Whether this tactic will work remains to be seen, however, particularly as the Telegraph claim Gibson has decided he needs to leave the Riverside to further his career.

It is a tricky situation for the 24-year-old because his uncle, Steve Gibson, is the Boro owner and he has spent the entirety of his career so far at the club – aside from loan spells in the lower divisions.

Yet after being called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad earlier this year (he is still yet to receive a senior cap) and with the World Cup coming up in 2018, Gibson believes he needs to be playing in the Premier League to realise his international ambitions.
