Scottish Premiership champions Celtic reportedly want Dinamo Zagreb’s Kosovan international Amir Rrahmani.

Amir Rrahmani has rejected a move to Standard Liege, according to Belgian publication DH, giving Celtic renewed hope of reinforcing a backline which is clearly in need to some rejuvenation.

A 22-time Kosovan international, Rrahmani might not be a household name in Glasgow but that should be no concern whatsoever for the Celtic fans. Hands up who had heard of Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Filip Benkovic before they joined the Scottish Premiership champions?

And, unlike the aforementioned trio, Rrahmani would potentially arrive at Celtic as an established, experienced international who lifted the Croatian League title with Dinamo Zagreb last season, finishing 25 points clear at the top.

DH claims that Rrahmani is a £1.75 million target. Given that he can play at left-back or centre-half, he could replace Emilio Izaguirre and Dedryck Boyata in Neil Lennon’s squad.

And Celtic should be enthused by latest claims from Belgium. According to DH, Rrahmani has turned down a move to Standard Liege.

It doesn’t say why, however, or what the defender’s preferred destination is. But Celtic are one step closer with Standard seemingly ruled out, even if they haven’t given up just yet.
