The Newcastle United winger spent the first half of the season on loan at Bolton Wanderers.

A report in the Bolton News has suggested that Bolton Wanderers want to re-sign Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi, but may perhaps face a difficult task in trying to get a deal done.

The 24-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at the Macron Stadium but has recently returned to St James’ Park following the end of the previous agreement.

And it initially appeared that the wide-man may stand a chance of helping the Magpies in their quest for promotion back to the Premier League as Rafa Benitez hinted that he now has a chance to prove himself (via Shields Gazette).

However, the Trotters have not given up hope of bringing him back in the near future, according to the Bolton News, but may struggle to convince Newcastle to let him go.

The Bolton News reports that the Championship high-flyers are still owed some money for wages from the initial agreement and will not give a new deal the green light until they receive those funds.

And given the League One side’s financial struggles (via Telegraph) – they are currently serving a transfer embargo that prevents them from paying loan fees (via Bolton News) – the idea of settling up with Newcastle before agreeing a fresh deal may perhaps be a stumbling block that is too big for Bolton to contend with.
