Arouna Kone’s move to QPR fell through in January and Bolton Wanderers are now favourites to land the former Everton forward
After being released by Everton at the end of last season, it appears that Arouna Kone will indeed be offered a lifeline to remain in English football.
beIN Sports claims that the Ivorian striker has options from several Turkish Super Lig clubs, as well as Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers.
A seasoned international with 39 caps to his name, Kone could be an excellent addition for Phil Parkinson’s side as they aim to impress in their first season back in the Championship after finishing second in League One.
Injuries prevented Arouna Kone (L) from making an impact at Everton
Though Kone netted just 10 goals in an injury hit four years at Everton, an impressive debut season in English football with Wigan Athletic in 2012/13 demonstrated that the forward had the power and the poacher’s instinct to thrive on British shores.
And Bolton fans will be hoping the 33-year-old can locate his shooting boots at the Macron Stadium.
Kone could be the second striker signing made by Bolton in the off-season after they completed the signing of Cardiff City outcast Adam Le Fondre on a permanent deal earlier in the month.
The journeyman striker made a big impression when joining The Trotters on loan in January, netting six times to help them edge out Fleetwood Town in the battle for automatic promotion.
Bolton Wanderers’ Adam Le Fondre
Bolton’s interest in Kone could also mean that a move to Queens Park Rangers is no longer a possibility.
Get West London claim that QPR’s attempt to sign the former Sevilla striker in January was scuppered when Everton demanded they pay the majority of his £40,000-a-week wages.
It remains to be seen how much Bolton are willing to offer Kone to convince him to sign on the dotted line.
