According to reports from Daily Mirror (print edition; September 5th – press reader), Bolton Wanderers are looking to sign Jay Spearing.

The report claims that the 28-year-old has been unable to find a club, and Bolton ‘may sign’ their former skipper.

The defensive midfielder graduated from Liverpool’s academy and made his senior debut for the Reds in 2008.

In the 2012-13 season, he joined Bolton on loan where he made a strong impact, and later signed a permanent deal with them.

He has made 125 championship appearances for Bolton before leaving the club this summer after failing to agree terms on a new contract.

The former Bolton skipper has what it takes to be a good player at this level and most importantly the club need someone to put in the tackles and protect the defensive players.

Bolton have made a poor start to the season, and a player of Spearing’s experience would come in handy.

One problem could be meeting his wages, with Bolton working on a tight budget. But with Spearing out of a club at the moment, a return to Bolton makes sense.
