Rodwell was released by Sunderland earlier this week.

The Sun have claimed Championship side Bolton Wanderers are in talks to sign released Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell, after the former England international saw his contract torn up by the Wearside club.
Sunderland terminated Rodwell’s contract earlier this week, despite his £73,000-a-week deal being reduced to £44,000 a week following the club’s relegation to League One.

The former Everton and Manchester City midfielder managed just three appearances in all competitions last season, and was completely ostracised as the Wearside club looked to offload his expensive pay packet off the wage bill.

Now a free agent, Bolton have opened talks to sign the 27-year-old, as they look to fight against relegation again under Phil Parkinson during the 2018-19 campaign.

Rodwell will be desperate to reignite his career after a shocking spell at Sunderland that has seen him develop the title as one of England’s biggest forgotten footballers – after showing the potential to become one of the country’s best.
Bolton will have competition for Rodwell’s signature, though, with interest said to be coming from the MLS.
