Gabbiadini is on the fringes of Mark Hughes’ Southampton side.
Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini “has opened a possible return” to Serie A side Bologna over the past few days as he remains on the fringes of Mark Hughes’ squad.
The 26-year-old was left out of Southampton’s 18-man squad to face Manchester City, which saw the Saints suffer a 6-1 defeat to Hughes’ former side.
An 11-time Italy international, Gabbiadini has only managed 179 minutes of Premier League football this season, with summer signing Danny Ings considered first choice by Hughes.
England international Ings has been in decent form for Southampton since joining the club on a loan-to-buy basis from Liverpool, scoring five goals in 11 league and cup appearances.
The report claims Bologna would need to reduce Gabbiadini’s wages which stand at around £33,000 a week, more than they currently pay Mattia Destro who is believed to be the Italian club’s highest-paid player.
Gabbiadini has already turned out for Bologna during his career, scoring seven goals in 31 appearances for the Serie A side. Bologna are struggling in Italy’s top tier, sitting in 17th place and scoring only nine league goals in 11 games.
