Arsenal will have to be mindful of an approach from Chelsea regarding Bukayo Saka.

At least, that’s the view of journalist Simon Phillips who has told Give Me Sport that the Blues’ owner Todd Boehly is ‘monitoring’ the situation regarding Saka’s contract.

The 21-year-old is out of contract at Arsenal in 2024 and despite a lot of soundbites from journalists about an extension being imminent, nothing has been announced as of yet.

One thing for sure is that the North Londoners will have to give him much more than his existing £30,000 per week [Spotrac].

Because if they don’t, Chelsea are willing to offer him a ‘good deal’, according to Phillips.

He said: “Chelsea and Boehly have been monitoring this situation closely in a view to offering Saka a good deal. But as of now there are no offers on the table from Chelsea, but they are certainly watching the situation in the shadows, although I believe Saka will sign an extension with Arsenal.”

Journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed to Give Me Sport [as covered by HITC Sport] over a month ago that a new deal was ‘very close’.

And to be honest, you can understand if Arsenal supporters are growing increasingly anxious.

With Mikel Arteta’s side being top of the Premier League standings, there’s no logical reason for Saka an academy product – to leave and therefore you’d imagine he’d be delighted to sign a new contract.

But the longer it goes without good news, the more nervy things will be and Chelsea definitely have the clout, resources and neck to make it problematic for their London rivals.
