According to The Sun, the Bellagraph Nova Group want to appoint Alan Shearer as the new manager of Newcastle United if and when the prospective takeover goes through.

The Bellagraph Nova Group want to buy Newcastle from current owner Mike Ashley, and believe that they are in an advanced stage of doing so, according to the report in the British tabloid.

The report has quoted a BN Group insider as saying that Newcastle legend Shearer has been offered the managerial position or whatever role he ‘would like to do in the club’.

The insider has further claimed that Shearer ‘has already accepted to work with us if our takeover goes through’.

Alan Shearer as manager?

Shearer is a Newcastle legend, but it is hard to see the Englishman take charge of the first team.

The former England international striker was in interim charge of the Magpies in 2009, and the club got relegated to the Championship.

The 50-year-old does not have any other managerial experience, and he is unlikely to take the role over from Steve Bruce.

Perhaps Shearer could take a senior role at the club, such as a sporting director, or be part of the recruitment team.
