Sheffield United still pushing ahead with potential deal for Ricky Holmes despite reports of a new contract at Charlton.

Sheffield United have not given up hope of signing Ricky Holmes just yet, according to the Sheffield Star, despite current club Charlton Athletic insisting he is not for sale.

In fact the South London Press have an exclusive report claiming that Holmes is on the verge of signing an improved contract with the Addicks.

Blades manager Chris Wilder has made no secret about the fact he is interested in the 30-year-old, with the Sheffield Star reporting in June that the Yorkshire club had already had two bids rejected for the attacker.

Now as Wilder prepares to jet out to Spain with his squad for warm weather training, he has left negotiations for Holmes in the capable hands of the Bramall Lane hierarchy.

The 49-year-old knows Charlton’s 2016/17 player of the year well from their time spent together at Northampton Town, where they won the League Two title in 2015/16 before going their separate ways.

Wilder is looking to make Holmes his sixth permanent signing of the summer so far as he prepares for an upcoming season in the Championship, joining George Baldock, Ched Evans, Richard Stearman, Enda Stevens and Nathan Thomas.
