Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn Rovers have been in talks with Southampton to sign Sam Gallagher since last week but a bid is expected to be made today.

The 23-year-old forward has also attracted interest from Wigan Athletic but Tony Mowbray’s side could well be the favourites thanks to Gallagher’s loan spell at Ewood Park back in the 2016/17 season. The report reveals that the Saints will demand a fee of around £5 million for the young forward and a move away from St. Mary’s looks likely.
Ralph Hasenhuttl is looking to trim their wage bill as he looks forward to his first full season at the helm of Southampton. The Saints boss turned out to be a wonderful appointment as he helped his side stay up after a horror show under Mark Hughes earlier last season.
Blackburn, on the other hand, finished 15th in the Championship last season and Mowbray will be looking to strengthen his front line to climb higher up next season. Gallagher would be a phenomenal addition to his squad and the Saints man along with Bradley Dack could form a brilliant attacking partnership next term.

Gallagher is no stranger to what is expected of him at Ewood Park as he spent his best ever campaign there three years ago. The now 23-year-old scored 11 times for Mowbray’s side and if he can replicate the same kind of form next season, the Rovers could well finish in the top ten.
£5 million for a homegrown player who is still only 23 is a worthy investment and Blackburn could really benefit from his goals in the coming years. Gallagher will have a brilliant opportunity to restart his career after a disappointing last two years and a move there in the coming days suits everyone involved.
