According to the Lancashire Telegraph, Blackburn Rovers defender Darragh Lenihan is struggling with illness and is a doubt for Tony Mowbray’s side’s visit to promotion-chasing Norwich City this weekend.

Following Leeds United’s defeat to Brentford on Saturday, Norwich are six points clear of third place with just two games remaining and they only need a draw at home to Blackburn to clinch promotion.

Rovers have had an inconsistent campaign. Since January, they went on a run of nine defeats in 11 league games, yet they head to Carrow Road having won four straight Championship matches.

Lenihan has been such an important figure for Blackburn this season. His injury layoff coincided with the team’s poor form while since his return at the end of March Rovers have conceded just five goals in six games.

The 25-year-old defender averages 6.3 aerial duel winners and 5.5 clearances per league encounter. Lenihan is a rock in defence and Blackburn are a far better team with him leading at the back.

Norwich know that only a point will be enough to secure their return to the top flight, and they stand a much better chance of gaining a result they need against a Blackburn side without their best central defender.

The Canaries beat Rovers 1-0 in the reverse fixture at Ewood Park. Even if they Daniel Farke’s side lose this weekend, they could still get promoted if Leeds fail to beat Aston Villa at home on Sunday.
