The much maligned Aston Villa man is said to be the subject of interest from the club’s fierce rivals.

According to a report from Sunday’s print edition of the Sun and later posted online by the Birmingham Mail, Birmingham City are interested in signing Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick this summer.
There were high hopes when the 29-year-old arrived at Villa Park from Bournemouth. But despite starting the campaign as club captain he fell out of favour after a string of poor performances, attracting the ire of a section of the club’s fans in the process.
With James Chester and Nathan Baker impressing under Steve Bruce, Elphick had to make do with a bit-part role for the second half of the campaign and it would be no surprise to see him move on in the close season.
What would be surprising, however, is if the Blues sweep in and take him off Villa’s hands.
Elphick is at an age when he will know the importance of playing week in, week out, with his thirtieth birthday soon approaching.

But Villa fans would be loath to see him move to their fierce rivals; unless they rate him so poorly that they would be laughing all the way to the bank?
Only time will tell how this one plays out, yet it seems the centre-back’s time at Villa could well be coming to an end prematurely based on his lack of minutes in recent months.
