According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (print edition; 1st October 2017; page 61), Birmingham City are interested in making a bid for Crystal Palace midfielder Jonny Williams, who is currently on loan with the Blues’ Championship rivals Sunderland.

Williams has endured a difficult few years with the Eagles, struggling to earn regular opportunities in the side and spending much of his time with the club’s books out on loan.

He joined Sunderland on a season-long loan in the summer, and has made a fairly bright start to life at the Stadium of Light, making four appearances in the Championship for Simon Grayson’s men.

But he may not be with the club for the full duration of his loan spell, with The Sun on Sunday (print edition; 1st October 2017; page 61) reporting that Birmingham are plotting a £2 million bid for the 23-year-old during the January transfer window.

And, perhaps worryingly for Sunderland, The Sun on Sunday reports that Palace may well consider letting the academy graduate leave Selhurst Park on a permanent basis.

Of course, if Williams has impressed by the time the January window comes about, then perhaps spending £2 million on him may be something Sunderland consider trying to do if Birmingham do come calling.
