McParland has overseen several impressive acquisitions during his time with Glasgow Rangers.

A report in the Daily Record has suggested that Birmingham City are planning a swoop for Rangers’ recruitment chief Frank McParland as the backroom reshuffle at St Andrew’s continues.

The Blues surprisingly parted company with manager Gary Rowett last week, despite their former defender doing what appeared to be a very good job with the Midlands outfit, and replaced him with Gianfranco Zola.

And perhaps sensing the importance of the upcoming transfer windows, Birmingham are now targeting the Gers man, who has enjoyed a promising track record since his arrival at Ibrox in 2015.

The likes of Joe Dodoo and Jordan Rossiter were brought in from the Premier League in the summer, while Accrington Stanley pair Josh Windass and Matt Crooks were also signed following his recommendation, the Record reports.

Unsurprisingly, that ability to identify players has not gone unnoticed in recent times with the Record stating that Rafael Benitez – with whom, McParland worked with for some of his 14 year spell at Liverpool – wanted to bring him to Newcastle earlier in the campaign.

And while Rangers may now need to brace themselves for another bid, the Record adds that McParland is unlikely to make the move to the Championship, which would surely be a boost to the Gers’ hopes of returning to the summit of the Scottish Premiership in the near future.
