Confusion surrounds the future of Birmingham City striker James Vaughan, who was linked with a move to Glasgow Rangers this weekend.

A report in the Sun claimed that Vaughan had entered talks with the Ibrox outfit after his contract with Huddersfield Town expired this summer.

However, according to the Birmingham Mail, the 27-year-old is actually a Blues player – and the club are ‘not aware’ of any enquiries.

Vaughan, who rose through the ranks at Everton while Rangers assistant boss David Weir was a player at Goodison Park, initially arrived at St. Andrew’s on loan in November 2015, a deal which was later extended until June.

At the time, the Birmingham Mail reported that Vaughan had agreed a pre-contract agreement with Gary Rowett’s men, which now appears to have been rubber-stamped.

However, after failing to score in 20 Blues appearances – and having been named as an unused substitute in seven of the club’s final eight league fixtures – Vaughan may be allowed to move on this summer.

The Brummie’s deal is thought to run until June 2017 and, as such, Birmingham would likely demand a fee.
