The new West Ham boss has been linked with the former Tottenham Hotspur defender.

West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic wants to sign former Tottenham defender Vedran Corluka, according to the Daily Mirror.

Indeed, the West Ham coach worked with Corluka when in charge of the Croation national side and is reportedly keen on a reunion with the ex-Spurs man.

The Hammers were initially interested in Micah Richards, claim the Mirror, who will instead join Aston Villa

Meanwhile, West Ham are said to be ‘unwilling’ to pay the £2 million loan fee Arsenal are demanding for Carl Jenkinson ahead of next season.

That leaves Corluka as Bilic’s first choice at West Ham, creating the opportunity for both a Croatia reunion and a reunion for the 29-year-old playing against Tottenham.

Jenkinson impressed at Upton Park last term but, should the east London club pass on the opportunity to re-loan him, he may well play a part at Arsenal next campaign – considering their injury troubles in defence last time out.

Corluka enjoyed huge success with Bilic with his country and is also remembered fondly by the Tottenham faithful, who criticised him for his lack of pace but heaped praise on his positional sense and footballing brain.
