West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is reportedly keen on Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic.
West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic
According to The Sun, West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic is keen to complete a £16million raid for Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic this summer.
The Hammers have lost four Premier League games in a row, piling the pressure on manager Bilic given that they aren’t quite safe from relegation to the Championship just yet.
Regardless, Bilic will be eyeing up summer transfer targets, and he is believed to have set his sights on a Premier League winger in order to boost his attacking options.
The Sun report that Bilic wants to sign Liverpool’s Lazar Markovic this summer – and is urging the West Ham board to back him in a £16million bid for the winger.
Markovic, 23, was touted as one of the top young talents in Europe during his time with Benfica, and his performances earned him a 2014 move to Liverpool; but his time at Anfield has been disappointing to say the least.
The Serbian international has registered just two goals in 19 Premier League appearances for the Reds, and spent time out on loan with Fenerbahce and Sporting Lisbon before being farmed out to Hull City in January.
Hull City’s Lazar Markovic looks dejected after hitting the post against Manchester United
Since joining Marco Silva’s side, the speedy wide man has made six starts in the Premier League, and he has flashed real ability with driving runs forward – though his end product continues to frustrate.
Markovic played 90 minutes against West Ham on Saturday, and it’s believed that his display has convinced Bilic to mount a summer bid for the Liverpool outcast, though the West Ham board may need convincing about paying £16million for him.
The Hammers board are seemingly undecided about Bilic’s future already, and whilst he’s allegedly banging the table to sign Markovic, £16million is a hefty investment for a player with limited Premier League success.
