According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has called Juventus striker Simone Zaza ahead of a possible move to the London Stadium.
The Hammers are in the market for a new striker after injuries to Andy Carroll and Andre Ayew, but a loan deal may be preferable given that West Ham spent heavily on Ayew already this summer.
With just six days to go until the end of the transfer window, West Ham need to move quickly – and manager Slaven Bilic appears to have zeroed in on his top target.
Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that West Ham are closing in on a deal for Juventus striker Simone Zaza, with Bilic pulling out all the stops to land his man.
Zaza, 25, hit eight goals last season having joined Juventus from Sassuolo, but spent most of his season playing as a backup to the likes of Alvaro Morata, Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala.
Morata has left the club, but Gonzalo Higuain has arrived, meaning Zaza is still Massimiliano Allegri’s fourth-choice striker – and a move away could be on the cards before next week’s transfer deadline.
The Italian international is West Ham’s top target, and Di Marzio claims that Bilic has phoned Zaza in order to discuss the player’s possible move to the London Stadium.
It’s added that Zaza’s deal would be a loan deal until the end of the season, where West Ham would then have the chance to sign Zaza permanently for €28m (£24m) next summer, with the financial aspects of the deal seemingly already worked out.
An agreement appears to be close, and West Ham may finally get the striker they’ve been looking for – and given the first-team football on offer, Zaza may well be keen on joining Bilic’s men in the coming days.
