Slaven Bilic is reportedly confident of bringing Stoke City’s Glen Johnson back to West Ham this month.

According to a report from The Sun, West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic is confident of bringing Stoke City defender Glen Johnson back to the club this month.

The Hammers have endured an up-and-down season so far this term, and after three wins in a row, Bilic’s men suffered a 1-0 defeat away at Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

Whilst many fans are hoping to see West Ham bring in a new striker this month, another problem position for Bilic has been at right back.

Sam Byram – signed from Leeds United last January – has yet to really make an impact in the Premier League, deadline day arrival Alvaro Arbeloa has become the forgotten man at the London Stadium having struggled at the age of 33, whilst Michail Antonio has proven himself at right wing back, but not at right back.

A number of right backs have been linked with the club ahead of this month’s transfer window, but a familiar face is now being touted for a move back to East London.

The Sun claim that West Ham want to sign Stoke City right back Glen Johnson this month, and manager Bilic is described as being confident of completing a £1million swoop for the veteran defender.

Johnson, 32, started his career with West Ham having joined their academy at the age of just nine, and after coming up through the ranks to make 16 first-team appearances, he was snapped up by London rivals Chelsea in 2003.

Spells with Portsmouth and Liverpool have followed, and he’s now turning out for Stoke City, where he has played 41 times following a 2015 move to the Potters.

Johnson – who has 54 England caps to his name – is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning Stoke may be willing to get some money for him this month before he leaves for nothing in the summer.

Landing a proven Premier League right back for just £1million would be ideal for West Ham whilst Byram attempts to settle in to life at the London Stadium, and the player himself could be tempted to make the move back to where it all began for him almost 25 years ago.
