Newcastle United’s current stance on Dwight Gayle would be tested with a ‘big bid, according to a report.
The Chronicle points out how the Magpies are changing their approach and looking to keep hold of Gayle this summer despite the striker entering the final year of his contract at St James’ Park.
It is said there is plenty of interest in Gayle’s signature again, but Steve Bruce believes the speedster can contribute despite the player being available for sale last summer.
Gayle was a bright spark for Newcastle when football restarted and the 29-year-old may well be aware that this is perhaps his last chance to showcase what he is about in England’s top-flight.
Previously at Crystal Palace, and now at Newcastle, Gayle hasn’t really established himself in the Premier League despite ripping it up on a number of occasions in the Championship.
If he struggles for consistency again ahead of the new campaign then he may find it difficult to maintain his own Premier League status during these coming years.

But the former West Brom player needs to look at the positives and hope to build on the positive form he showed after football restarted.
What happens with Newcastle off the field may well help or hinder Gayle’s and his teammate’s cause because if the takeover saga is still lingering over the North East then it may produce unnecessary pressure on those at the club ahead of the new season.
Either way, a big season awaits Gayle, who has shown glimpses over the years that he can be a livewire in the final third, he just needs someone to back him and provide him with a proper chance.
