According to Tuttomercatoweb, Leeds United have made contact over a potential deal for Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez in recent hours.
It’s claimed that there are ‘sirens from England’ for Nandez, with Leeds trying to ‘snatch’ the Uruguayan ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.
Marcelo Bielsa is allegedly driving Leeds’ interest in Nandez, and with talks now ongoing, developments are expected in the coming days.
Who is Nahitan Nandez?
Nandez, 24, emerged in his native Uruguay with Penarol, and then enjoyed two fine years at Boca Juniors before heading to Europe with Cagliari.
A diminutive figure at just 5ft 7in tall, Nandez is immensely hard-working and aggressive, embodying Uruguayan football whilst also being quick and adept on the ball.
Nandez, who has 31 caps for Uruguay, can play as a holding midfielder, central midfielder or right-sided midfielder, with his versatility potentially appealing to Bielsa.

Would a move make sense?
In one sense, yes; this isn’t the first time Leeds have been linked with Nandez, as TMW reported their interest in 2019 when Nandez was still at Boca.
Nandez would bring a real box-to-box presence to Leeds’ play, and his relentless style fits well with Bielsa, but Mateusz Klich doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon.
Add in that Bayern Munich’s Michael Cuisance is heading to Elland Road, and bringing in another central midfield player just doesn’t seem like a priority right now, even if Bielsa loves Nandez.
