Newcastle United have been linked with a loan move for the Chelsea youngster.
According to a report from Turkish website Fotospor, Besiktas have joined the race to sign Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham this summer, and that could be bad news for alleged suitors Newcastle United.
Earlier this week Sky Sports stated that the Magpies are on course to complete a season-long loan move for the exciting goal-scorer, following his hugely successful spell at Bristol City last time out.
In that time the 19-year-old found the net 26 times in 48 matches and his blistering form clearly alerted Newcastle to his ability as they bid to challenge on their return to the top flight.
While Besiktas may be planning a late move of their own, Chelsea would be wise to send him to a club where he can get used to the English top flight, in the hope that one day he will be turning out regularly at Stamford Bridge.
A move to Turkey at this stage of his career makes no sense, although it is testament to his form that clubs further afield are sniffing around.
Newcastle will be hoping to see off Besiktas’s interest and complete a deal for a striker who could hit the ground running at St. James’ Park, helping fire them up the table to ensure the Championship title winners return to the upper echelons of the Premier League from the outset.
Benitez certainly knows how to do that, but he will need a few more signings before he can set it as a realistic aspiration.
