According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Rafael Benitez’s assistant Fabio Pecchia will leave Newcastle to take charge of Hellas Verona.
Pecchia, now 42, had a long playing career in his native Italy as a midfielder, turning out for the likes of Napoli, Juventus, Sampdoria, Torino and Bologna – but in recent years, he’s become known as Benitez’s right-hand man.

The duo started working together at Napoli back in 2013, and Pecchia then followed Benitez to Spain last summer, as the current Newcastle boss became Real Madrid manager.
A third spell together started earlier this year when Pecchia arrived as Benitez’s assistant at Newcastle, but their time together appears to be coming to an end.

Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Pecchia is poised to leave Tyneside, as he will become the new manager of Hellas Verona back in Italy.
Verona finished bottom of Serie A this past season and have subsequently been relegated to Serie B, with Luigi Del Neri losing his job – and Pecchia is the man called upon to guide Verona back to Serie A.

That move, which will allegedly be announced at some point this week, will mean that Newcastle boss Benitez will have to find a new assistant ahead of the Championship season.
Bringing in somebody with experience in the Championship would be a huge boost to Benitez, who despite his superb career as a manager, will have to learn quickly about life in the second tier.
