Newcastle United are reportedly keen on Bournemouth’s Josh King.
According to The Sun, Newcastle United are preparing a £20million bid for Bournemouth striker Josh King as Rafael Benitez seeks funding from chairman Mike Ashley.
The Magpies are not only set to avoid relegation in their first season back in the Premier League, but may even be on the verge of a top ten finish under Benitez.
The Spaniard has worked wonders this season, and will be desperate for financial backing this summer in order to boost his squad and kick on next term, rather than scrap around for loans and bargains again.
Now, The Sun report that Benitez is seeking the green light from chairman Mike Ashley to spend this summer, with Bournemouth hitman Josh King one of his top targets.
It’s claimed that Benitez feels King can lead the Newcastle attack – which has struggled at times this season – and will be ready with a £20million offer should Ashley stump up the cash.
King, 26, has hit six goals in 30 Premier League games this season, notching three assists too, after breaking out last season with a 16-goal campaign.
The former Manchester United youngster and current Norway international is an important figure at the Vitality Stadium, meaning Newcastle will have to come up with a huge offer to tempt the Cherries into a deal – and it remains to be seen whether wantaway Ashley would fund such a move.
