Everton are interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion striker Neal Maupay before the transfer deadline – but FFP rules are a big problem.
That’s according to Sky Sports, who claim that Rafael Benitez has picked out Maupay as a striker he wants to bring to Goodison Park.
Everton do need to give more attacking support to Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with Maupay seen as a player who can contribute.
The problem for Everton is that they are ‘hamstrung’ by Financial Fair Play rules, and can’t sanction a deal until players leave.
James Rodriguez, Fabian Delph, Cenk Tosun and Moise Kean are thought to be players that Everton need to offload before being able to move for Maupay.
Marseille also want the Frenchman, who has scored two in two to start the new season after finding the net just eight times in the Premier League last term.

The 25-year-old has been hailed as ‘fantastic’ by his Brighton boss Graham Potter, and is in a race against time to face Everton in the Premier League this weekend due to a knock.
Brighton spent £20million on Maupay in 2019, and with two years left on his contract, the Seagulls are under not pressure to sell in the final days of the window.
It will take a remarkable turnaround for Everton to be able to pull off this deal, so Marcel Brands needs to get to work and try to make Benitez’s wish come true.
