Newcastle United won’t be signing defender Loris Benito.

Newcastle United were essentially blocking themselves from making signings until Rafael Benitez’s future was settled – and now they’ll be left scrambling.

Benitez left the club on Sunday after failing to agree a new deal, and has already been confirmed as the new boss of Chinese side Dalian Yifang.

The delay in settling Benitez’s future means Newcastle have missed out on some of the Spaniard’s targets, whilst others – such as Salomon Rondon – look likely to move elsewhere now.

One player Benitez allegedly wanted at St James’ Park was left back Loris Benito, with The Sun claiming that the Swiss defender had been eyed up for a free transfer to Tyneside.

The 27-year-old allowed his contract to expire, much like Benitez, and he would have been fine competition at left back having impressed for Young Boys in Switzerland.

However, Benitez’s exit may well have cost Newcastle a shot at Benito, as 20 Minutes in France report that he will undergo a medical with Bordeaux today.

Benito allegedly arrived in France last night to finalise his move, and will become yet another free signing for Bordeaux after landing fellow defenders Mexer and Enock Kwateng.

Newcastle definitely need another left back, and Benito could have been a solid signing without breaking the bank – but with Benitez gone, no move materialised, and he’ll head to Ligue 1 instead.
