According to A Haber, Everton are ready to release Cenk Tosun from his contract, as they aim to avoid paying him the remainder of his wages.
What’s the story?
Well, Besiktas are extremely keen to re-sign Tosun, so much so that their President Ahmet Nur Çebi said he has spoken to the £27m Everton man.
Nur Çebi added that Besiktas always have their door open to the 45-cap Turkey international.
A Haber believe Besiktas will make a move for the 30-year-old in January, and it sounds like Everton will cooperate with the Turkish giants.
Tosun has been frozen out by Rafa Benitez, and is yet to kick a ball for Everton this season – both at first-team, and Under-23 level.
He is surplus to requirements in every sense of the phrase.
Tosun’s contract expires in June, but A Haber claim Everton may just release him and allow Besiktas to pick up the salary in January with a free transfer in the pipeline.
Why did Everton sign Salomon Rondon when they had Cenk Tosun?
With all due respect to both Salomon Rondon and Tosun, Everton fans probably can’t believe they actually employ two strikers of such little quality.
However, while they’re both not the most effective forwards around, Tosun is the better player in our view.
In that respect, it is a mystery as to why Benitez signed Rondon when he has Tosun in his squad to deputise for Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Of course, the Turk has been missing with a patella rupture, but he was back on the bench against Wolves.
Was it really worth paying Rondon a season’s worth of wages, instead of just waiting for Tosun to get fit again?
When both eventually leave Goodison Park, Marcel Brands should certainly have to face some questions about these two deals.
