Emmanuel Riviere, Siem de Jong, Grant Hanley, Tim Krul, Achraf Lazaar, Chancel Mbemba and Henri Saivet all have one more chance at Newcastle.

Rafa Benitez has given seven Newcastle United players who thought their chance at the club had maybe passed, one more opportunity to impress him.

The Chronicle reports that seven of the squad that have returned for pre-season training ahead of the 2017/18 season will be assessed by the Spaniard before he whittles things down.

Currently, Benitez has 35 first team players to call upon, but many of those will be deemed surplus to requirements or sent to the Under-23s in the next week or so.

However, among those being given one more chance are four returning loanees in Emmanuel Riviere, Siem de Jong, Tim Krul and Henri Saivet.

Krul is perhaps the one that stands out as the most likely to change Benitez’s mind, having been a key figure for Newcastle before their relegation in 2016.

Three others who have been rumoured to be shown the exit door but are still being looked over by the Magpies boss are Grant Hanley, Achraf Lazaar and Chancel Mbemba.
