Newcastle United are reportedly keen on Sparta Prague goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
According to The Chronicle, Sparta Prague are willing to let goalkeeper Martin Dubravka join Newcastle United – and have named their terms for a deal.
The Magpies have tied up just one January signing so far, having brought in Chelsea youngster Kenedy on loan until the end of the season earlier this week.
With less than a week to go until the transfer deadline though, Newcastle need to move quickly to bring in more new signings, with a striker a priority for manager Rafael Benitez.
Another area of concern would be in goal, as Benitez seemingly isn’t convinced by either Karl Darlow or Rob Elliot, with a host of shot-stoppers linked over the course of the season.
Now, The Chronicle report that Newcastle are continuing to target Sparta Prague goalkeeper Martin Dubravka – and have been told the terms needed to sign him.
Newcastle have already failed with a loan bid with a view to signing him permanently for £4m this summer, and Sparta have offered the Magpies two options if they want to sign Dubravka over the next week.
The first is to take him on loan for £1.25million before an obligatory buyout clause of £4m is activated at the end of the season, and the second is paying £2.2million for a loan deal now, with an option to buy for £3.2million this summer.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle accept either proposal, but the 29-year-old Slovakian international would offer some experience between the sticks for the Magpies, and Benitez may well continue attempting to sign him over the coming days.
