Benik Afobe is in line for a permanent transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers from Bournemouth, according to the Daily Mirror [February 8 printed edition, page 57].
Afobe returned to Molineux on deadline day, two years after his £10 million move in the opposite direction.
And the Daily Mirror understand there is a clause in the deal allowing Wolves to turn his stay into a full-time arrangement.
Afobe came off the bench for the final 13 minutes of Wolves’ 3-0 win against Sheffield United on Saturday, and may have to fight for a starting place, with Ivan Cavaleiro and Diogo Jota on form.
A start like last time?
One player who will be looking over his shoulder, however, is Leo Bonatini, who has failed to add to his 12-goal haul in as many matches – and was relegated to the substitutes’ bench for Wolves’ last two.
Should his chance arrive in the coming weeks, Afobe will hope to replicate the start he made after arriving at Molineux in January 2015 – which saw him score 13 goals in 21 games.
The former Arsenal trainee also found the net four times in his first 15 Premier League outings for Bournemouth, but only has six in 48 since then.
