Newcastle United are set to bring three new players to the Premier League, Samaris, Monaco defender Antonio Barreca and Atlanta United’s Miguel Almiron.

Newcastle United could have three new players on their books by the end of Wednesday.

Miguel Almiron is expected to arrive from Atlanta United in a hotly-anticipated deal with the Paraguayan, who was the best player in the MLS last season, set to replace Michael Owen as the club’s record signing (BBC).

Monaco’s Italian left-back Antonio Barecca is on his way too, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

And, in a further boost to Rafa Benitez, one of his most long-running transfer targets is also closer than ever to pulling on the black and white stripes of Newcastle.

The Express claims that Andreas Samaris is jetting in for a medical today with The Magpies set to sign him on loan from Benfica for the rest of the season.

At 29-years-old, Samaris is hardly the archetypal Newcastle signing with the club tending to prioritise young players with a high re-sale value. But owner Mike Ashley seems to have become belatedly aware of the need to appease the frustrated Benitez, whose contract expires in the summer.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss is a big fan of Samaris, having tried to sign him in each of the last two summer windows.

The Greek international has 33 caps for his country and has won four league titles during his time at Benfica and Olympiakos.
