According to The Athletic, Everton defender Ben Godfrey took particular inspiration from a prank by a Liverpool fan.
The Toffees beat their city rivals 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday evening, with Richarlison opening the scoring before Gylfi Sigurdsson sealed the win from the spot.
Liverpool have been in dismal form of late, but nothing will take way the joy for Everton fans as they piled the misery on Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Now, it’s claimed that a Liverpool fan attempted to play a prank on the Everton squad by setting off an alarm at 1am to disturb the Toffees.
However, the incident only served to inspire Everton, and defender Godfrey was particularly motivated.
He also wanted to use his last game at Anfield – a 4-1 defeat with Norwich City last season – as motivation to claim a win with Everton.

It worked perfectly for Godfrey as he not only helped Everton win, but also to a clean sheet as Carlo Ancelotti’s men frustrated Liverpool’s vaunted attack.
Godfrey, a £25million signing from Norwich City in October, has quickly become a fan favourite at Everton, and this latest story will sure only serve to enhance his status at Goodison Park.
