The Leeds United defender has spent the season on loan in his homeland and could be set to stay in Italy.
A source has told BBC Radio Leeds (06/06/2017) that Leeds United centre-back Giuseppe Bellusci will not be returning to Elland Road this summer.
The 27-year-old arrived at Leeds from Catania in the summer of 2014 and he went on to make 61 appearances for the Whites – some considerably better than others.
When Bellusci moved to Empoli on loan for the duration of last season, few Leeds fans shed a tear. After all, he is best remembered for a horror show against Middlesbrough that seemingly signaled the end of his time as a regular starter.
“He will not be coming back to the UK and we hope to sort out a deal that is best for both parties,” the source is quoted as saying by BBC journalist Adam Pope.
While Empoli’s relegation means he is unlikely to return for a second spell there, it was recently reported by Italian website Tutto Mercato Web that Bologna are keen to prolong the defender’s time in Serie A.
With a year left on his current deal, a fee is likely to be required to take Bellusci off Leeds’ hands. However without a manager at the helm it will be up to owner Andrea Radrizzani to sanction an exit that has looked all but inevitable for quite some time.
Time will tell how this one plays out, but of all the players to leave Leeds in recent year’s Bellusci ‘s departure is likely to be the least bemoaned among supporters.
