There is belief building within Tottenham Hotspur that Ryan Mason could land the job on a permanent basis, according to the Sunday Mirror (print edition, 02/05/21 – page 69).
Mason has now won both his Premier League games in charge of Tottenham, and seems to have generated a feel-good factor at the club again.
Tottenham may have been poor in the League Cup final, but in general they have shown a willingness to attack.
Mason has brought in the likes of Dele Alli and Gareth Bale from the cold, and they have both proven their worth already.
Bale now has four goals in Tottenham’s last two Premier League games, while Alli was in fine form in Spurs’s 4-0 win over Sheffield United.
There is now apparently a growing feeling that Mason’s chances of landing the job are increasing.
That would be a shock twist for the 29-year-old, who has absolutely no managerial experience to this point, aside from with Tottenham’s youngsters.
The appointment may also be questioned by some Spurs supporters, as one which showed a lack of ambition.
But after Jose Mourinho’s rather controversial time at the club, having a former player, who the squad have a good relationship with, could be appealing to Tottenham’s board.
He would also have the backing of former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who predicted that Mason would be a ‘great’ manager soon after he retired due to injury (Metro).
