Belgian outlet Voetbal 24 have claimed that Leeds United outcast Laurens De Bock is a transfer target for Israeli side Beitar Jerusalem this summer before the end of the transfer window on August 31.
De Bock, 25, was signed in the January transfer window but is another example of director of football Victor Orta chancing his arm on foreign talent – and that ultimately backfiring.
The left-back made mistakes during his first seven appearances for the Yorkshire outfit, after the club splashed out £1.5million (Yorkshire Evening Post) to sign the uncapped Belgian from Club Brugge.
This season, De Bock has been left out of the entire 18-man squad for all three Championship outings, while he was left on the bench as an unused sub in the Carabao Cup win over Bolton Wanderers.
Indeed, the summer signing of Barry Douglas – arguably one of the best defenders in the Championship last season with Wolves – is keeping De Bock firmly behind him in the pecking order.
De Bock was given a shirt number, unlike Eunan O’Kane and Caleb Ekuban, but he is certainly an expendable member of the squad and whether Beitar Jerusalem want to sign him on loan or permanently – a move could indeed materialise.
One thing is for sure, De Bock seems unlikely to break his way into Bielsa’s side, and perhaps a loan move elsewhere could help him rejuvenate his career – like Mateusz Klich. De Bock has four years remaining on his contract.
