Midfielder Dembele’s future at Tottenham remains in doubt.
Belgian newspaper HLN claim Chinese Super League outfit Beijing Guoan remain interested in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele, after first being linked to the Spurs star in February.
The Sun reported almost three months ago that the cash-rich CSL side were preparing a three-year deal worth £160,000 a week to land the former Fulham star, with his future at Spurs in doubt.
Dembele only has a year remaining on his current contract with Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as he continues to fight for a place in the Spurs team alongside midfielders Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks.
But now 30 years of age, Spurs may be looking to offload him this summer rather than giving the Belgian a new deal, with his injury problems said to be a concern for Pochettino.
HLN claim Guoan remain in contact with Dembele’s representatives ahead of the summer transfer window, despite the Chinese club’s four foreign places in their squad already taken up by Jonathan Viera, Cedric Bakambu, Renato Augusto and Jonathan Soriano.
Chinese Super League rules dictate that clubs can only have four foreign players in their squad, and three on the pitch. Viera and Bakambu were signed during 2017-18, so Guoan may have to sell Augusto or Soriano if they were to sign Dembele.
The report also claims that Spurs are willing to sell Dembele, with the midfielder doubtful over whether his “brittle ankles” can handle another season of training under Pochettino let alone fighting on four fronts again.
