Everton are reportedly pressing to sign defender Aleksandar Dragovic.

According to the Leicester Mercury, Bayer Leverkusen defender Aleksandar Dragovic has held talks with Everton about a move to Goodison Park.

Dragovic, 27, emerged in his native Austria with Austria Wien before making his name with Basel and Dynamo Kiev, though he did earn his big European move by joining Leverkusen in 2016.

The Austrian international struggled for playing time in his first season in Germany, and he was sent out on loan to Leicester last season, where he made just 11 Premier League appearances.

However, Dragovic did impress Foxes fans, and they have been left disappointed as the club have chosen not to pursue a permanent deal for the centre back this summer, instead signing Jonny Evans and targeting Solomon Kverkvelia.

The Leicester Mercury now report that Everton have swooped in and held talks with Dragovic, and could now land the defender from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

Michael Keane endured a difficult first season at Goodison Park, whilst Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka are both over the age of 30 and appear to be in decline.

Landing a more experienced defender than Keane but without signing another player over 30 has to be key, and Dragovic certainly fits that bill for the Toffees.

It’s unclear just how much Leverkusen would want for Dragovic, but they are unlikely to put up too much of a fight to keep him as Marcel Brands and Marco Silva seemingly press for their first Everton signing.
