According to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, Istanbul Basaksehir want to offer Jean-Kevin Augustin an escape route from his current predicament.

It’s claimed that Basaksehir have accelerated their attempts to sign Augustin after failing to score a single goal in the first four games of the new season.

They’re clearly worried with their lack of attacking potency, and now believe they can rescue Augustin from his current nightmare.

Augustin is currently owned by RB Leipzig, but he has essentially been a player in no man’s land due to an ongoing row with Leeds United.

Leeds took Augustin on loan in January, and agreed to a £19million permanent clause that would be activated if Leeds won promotion to the Premier League.

However, Augustin failed to impress for Leeds, making just three appearances for a total of 49 minutes as he failed to earn Marcelo Bielsa’s trust.

Leeds have tried to get themselves out of the permanent clause, and signed Rodrigo Moreno instead, but Leipzig commercial director Florian Scholz told Sportbuzzer last month that Leipzig will take legal action if Leeds don’t keep their end of the deal.

Augustin has been a forgotten man in all discussions about Leeds’ transfer window, but it’s a situation that could bubble over if no resolution is found soon – and Leeds may be hoping that Basaksehir offer some help.
