According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United have launched a shock bid to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers left back Barry Douglas – and could leave this week, as The Express and Star claim a bid has been accepted.
The Whites have been fairly quiet in the transfer market this summer, as Chelsea duo Jamal Blackman and Lewis Baker have been their only signings, penning season-long loan deals at Elland Road.
Many expected Leeds to be active this summer having appointed Marcelo Bielsa as their new boss, but it may take a late trolley dash to get his side ready for the new Championship season.
Despite securing Tom Pearce to a new contract, Leeds are in the market for a new left back, and the Daily Mail now report that Leeds are closing in on Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Barry Douglas.
It’s claimed that talks have been held between the two clubs, and a move could take place before the end of the week, with The Express and Star adding that a bid has now been accepted.
Douglas, 28, joined Wolves from Turkish side Konyaspor last summer, and played a starring role in their promotion campaign, notching five goals and 14 assists in a stunning season.
The former Dundee United man is something of a set-piece specialist, providing outstanding delivery from free kicks and corners, with Wolves boss Nuno using him to great effect last season.
Douglas should be a first-choice left wing back for Bielsa if his Leeds move does go through, and a potential deal will raise more question marks about the future of January signing Laurens De Bock.
