Aston Villa are reportedly close to signing Barnsley’s Conor Hourihane.

According to the Daily Mail, Barnsley midfielder Conor Hourihane will undergo a medical with Aston Villa, after a bid was accepted for his services.

Earlier today, the Birmingham Mail reported that Villa were on the verge of signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury, with a £3million deal set to be completed.

However, whilst Lansbury is set to complete a medical and join Villa ahead of this weekend’s game against Preston North End, it seems that Steve Bruce may yet land another midfielder.

The Daily Mail report that Villa have had a bid accepted for Barnsley ace Conor Hourihane, and the Irishman will now undergo a medical with the club ahead of his move to Villa Park.

Hourihane, 25, has starred for Barnsley ever since his 2014 move from Plymouth Argyle, scoring a whopping 26 goals in his first two seasons with the club whilst captaining the club to promotion last season.

This term, Hourihane has notched five goals and 11 assists for Barnsley, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, he has unsurprisingly been the subject of major interest.

Villa have been leading the race for his signature, and it’s now believed that Hourihane will travel for a medical today after Villa finally bad a bid accepted for the midfielder.

The move would mean that Hourihane reunites with his former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce, and would give Villa real quality in midfield alongside fellow imminent arrival Lansbury.
