Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom watched Everton’s Liam Walsh in action last week, the Sun on Sunday reports (19/03, p67).
And it is claimed the 39-year-old is keen to bring Walsh to Oakwell next season, but on a permanent basis.
Huyton-born Walsh has impressed for Everton’s Under-23s this campaign, but is yet to make a breakthrough at Goodison Park.
The 19-year-old does, however, have some Football League experience, having scored one goal and made another two during a loan spell at Yeovil last term.
Barnsley retain strong links with Everton, having sold John Stones and Mason Holgate to the Premier League side in recent years.
But it remains to be seen whether or not the Toffees would be willing to sever their ties with Walsh – one of several talented prospects within the club’s ranks.

Barnsley are at risk of losing key midfielder Josh Scowen for nothing in the summer, however, the progress of Everton youngsters Holgate, Tom Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin could convince Walsh, an England Under-18 international, to stay and fight for place in Ronald Koeman’s team.
