Recent reports linked Leeds United’s Souleymane Doukara with a move to Turkey but it appears that Barnsley could be a surprise destination.
Though many Leeds United supporters have staunchly defended Souleymane Doukara over the years in the face of relentless criticism from some sections of the fanbase, the club’s decision to let him go this summer would not seem to be a major risk.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Doukara has no future at Elland Road under new manager Thomas Christiansen, who has not picked him in any of Leeds’ first four Championship games of the new season.
However, the Yorkshire Evening Post has now reported that there is interest far closer to home in the Senegalese forward. The report claims that Yorkshire rivals Barnsley are one of a number of English clubs watching developments surrounding Doukara’s future very closely.
The Tykes have struggled for goals so far this season, scoring only four times in four league games and picking up just three points in the process. And while Doukara is far from the most prolific of attackers, netting six times in 34 Championship appearances last season, he would add work rate and versatility in attack.
The question is whether Leeds would let Doukara, who has just one year remaining on his contract, leave for a league and local rival.
